L'extension inotify fait l'interface avec les fonctions inotify_init(), inotify_add_watch() et inotify_rm_watch().
Comme la fonction C inotify_init() retourne un pointeur de fichier, la fonction PHP inotify_init() retourne un flux, à utiliser avec les fonctions standard de flux, telle que stream_select(), stream_set_blocking() et fclose(). inotify_read() remplace l'approche en langage C de lecture des événements.
